Private Retirement Home - South-West England |
Approach to the discrete retirement home set in an estuary location in the west of England. The house was designed to fit into the existing landscape of a former holiday home, located on the steeply wooded banks of a river estuary
The new home was designed for full wheelchair accessible use to allow the maximum mobility for the occupants. Careful use of the site levels with a cantilevered timber terrace make the most use of the narrow site The garden and terrace exploit the views to Dartmoor while the main rooms have views west across the esturary. The use of timber, white render and slate link a modern well serviced building providing specific client needs with the traditional vernacular of the area.

Private Dwelling - Worcestershire |
A new dwelling designed by Adrian Hutt Architects with contract management implemented on site for the client. The site was formed by the sub-division of an existing plot of land, and after careful consultation with the Local Authority a brief was confirmed to provide a traditionally styled detached house with detached ancillary accommodation within the site. |
The client's brief included using traditional materials and setting the dwelling into the existing landscape to maximise the quality of the site and retain mature trees. The dwelling and detached garage are located on the site to provide a continuation of the 'haphazard' type of development in this part of the village, yet allow the garden to be split into two distinct sections, the public entrance and the private rear garden to the rear. |
Traditional materials were chosen to blend with the existing village properties and provide quality and value. However with careful detail design and a high standard of insulation specified, the house combines low running costs with a high sustainable accreditation |
The accommodation includes a large lounge with traditional fireplace, kitchen, dining room, office and three double bedrooms with en-suite facilities. Externally the gardens are detailed and planted to provide an informal country house setting positioned in a corner of rural Worcestershire. |
